Ujjain’s Priyanshi Prajapat Wins Silver at World Ranking Wrestling Tournament, Brings Glory to India

Ujjain: India’s rising wrestling star Priyanshi Prajapat from Ujjain has made the nation proud by clinching a silver medal at the Senior World Ranking Wrestling Tournament held in Tirana, Albania. Competing in the 50 kg category, Priyanshi showcased exceptional skill and determination, reaching the finals and earning the runner-up position.

Priyanshi was awarded the medal on February 26, 2026, marking a remarkable achievement in her first senior-level world ranking tournament. Despite stiff competition from Olympian-level wrestlers, she fought her way to the final, demonstrating India’s growing strength in international wrestling.

The athletes’ return to India, originally scheduled for March 1, faced delays due to rising tensions in the Middle East that led to flight cancellations. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav personally intervened to ensure the safe return of Priyanshi and her teammates, coordinating with the central government to manage logistics.

Speaking about her return, Priyanshi’s father, Mukesh Prajapat, confirmed that she has safely arrived at Delhi Airport and will soon be back in Ujjain. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister of India will meet the team in Delhi to congratulate them on their performance.

This tournament marked Priyanshi’s debut at the senior world ranking level, building on her previous international success. She had previously won a gold medal at the Under-23 Asian Championship held in Vietnam, further establishing her as a promising talent in Indian wrestling.

Mukesh Prajapat emphasized the dedication and sacrifices behind his daughter’s achievement, noting that she often missed family events and festivals to focus on training. He expressed gratitude to both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister for their support in ensuring the athletes’ safe return.

Priyanshi’s silver medal has not only brought pride to India but has also created a celebratory atmosphere in her hometown of Ujjain, where locals hailed her accomplishment as a significant moment of glory for the city.
